Is it bad luck if a black cat follows you? That depends on whether you’re a man or a mouse.

Sorry it’s been so long since the last blog, there have been a few hiccups at Little Hawley for Mum to deal with so she has not let us have the computer on.
Most of the hiccups have been to do with mums pigs (they are Managlitzas – curly coated ) and lots of rain and we all know what pigs and rain equal – MUD and lots and lots of it ,enough so that a foot or so has run down into their huts, so it has taken some time to sort them out, with the help of mums lovely neighbours Pamela and Farmer Graham .The other little problem Mum had was ME , Widget I decided to go back on hunger strike again ,this time for 5 DAYS no food no water (well I needed to show her that I meant business) it worked a treat I got an emergency appointment at the vets and best of all I have been moved to INSIDE mums house (I get the run of the sitting room and the bedroom ) well really I am 119 years old I shouldn’t have to share with a loads of young kittens, not at my time of life, I also have my own heat pad ,the fire is lit and really good food on tap – all I have to do is meow once and mum fetches me more. Well some times, a girls got to do what a girls got to do!!!

Jennifer has now got a new mum and dad a sister called Daisy (a tabby 10 year old) and a big human child, but she is not going just yet because she needs her second jab. Her new family will be collecting her on 6th February

Its good news both Mollie and Muriel have got Furr ever homes. Muriel is going to be an only kitten but her new mum is at home a lot of the time so she will get a lot of fuss made of her, and Mollie gets a new sister called Tigger (she is a tortie and white 11 year old) plus two human children to play with, and the girl human is called Hollie and that rhymes with Mollie!!!

Hello my name is Judith and i am a beautiful tabby and white 12 week old girl

A Very Exciting Day

Well we had a very exciting day yesterday setting up our own blog , we are only kittens (so not computer literate just yet) but our mum – well she is NOT computer friendly at all – more of a computer virus so it took a lot longer then we thought it would. Any way thank goodness for Milos mum – she has saved the day by helping us!!! A big kitten lick and kiss to her.

We will introduce ourselves, I am Felix (obviously a black and white boy ) I am in foster care with my brothers and sisters who are Fergus (black and white) Frodo (white with cream) Freya (white and tortie long haired) and Freda (black long haired )

Our foster mum came and collected us from near Exeter on 26th October it was a Sunday afternoon, we will stay with her now until she finds us new homes.

She told us some times that can be quick but some time it can take a long time, Freya has got her new home, but she has got a poorly eye, so mum doesn’t want her to go until its better.

Mum tells us that we are her beautiful yummy scummy furry purry babies (she’s right of course – mums always are right!!!) Talking of being right she said we must go for a nap now and yes I am a little sleepy – must be all that typing, speak to you all again soon.♥

A New Home Day

Hi everyone my name is Frodo, I’m writing the blog because – great excitement – a mum and dad came to look at us all and picked Felix, so he has gone to his new home. He gets a new mum and dad and a big brother called Charley!!! How lucky is he? We are all really pleased for him but at the same time sad because we didn’t get picked, Freda cried for a bit (but she is a girl and girlies do cry, not like me I’m a big boy and big boys don’t cry) So now that only leaves Fergus, Freda and me left (‘cos Freya is going to her new home tomorrow) our mum can’t believe she’s only got the 4 of us to look after – she told us that in the summer she had 34 foster babies  - 34 babies can you imagine? Well that’s all for now I will ask Fergus to speak to you all tomorrow.

Love and meows♥

A Trip To The Vets

I have a sore eye

I have a sore eye

Hello I’m Freya, although my new mum and dad are going to call me Daisy. I have got a new home, with brothers and sisters but I can’t go to it yet because I have a sore eye. Mum took me to the vets because it hasn’t got any better, I saw the Tina vet she is very nice and mum likes her but just as I thought it was all over she started poking me about with cotton wool, didn’t she hear what my mum said “she has got a sore eye” I did lots of wriggling but she just carried on, anyway finally she was finished and I could get back in my box (mum had put a hot water bottle in , so it was nice and warm for me because jack frost had been that morning and it was very cold) Just as we were going the Stewart nurse spotted me and said can he have a cuddle well I ‘m never going to refuse a cuddle or a stroke it just wouldn’t be polite to say no would it? He is very nice too, but not very easy to understand cos he talks with a thing that mum says is an accent. and it not local!! We came back home and mum said that I was to come into the kitchen for a few days Fantastic that’s every kittens dream  - you get to be right next to the aga and if you lay it on a bit and pretend you are feeling worse you get loads of cuddles and  the real nice food . Don’t get me wrong we all get lovely food but it’s dried, mum always says “you know that it’s better for you than the wet food” and yes we do know it keeps our teeth nice and clean and healthy, but if you are proper poorly you get the wet stuff and chicken or fish. So needless to say I might cry and meow just at the right times just so mum feels more sorry for me. Well I must go now  - I need mum to put some drops in my eye .Love and purrs ♥

Mum thinks we are clever kittens because we can put photo’s on our blog !!!

Dear God please send me somebody who’ll care!

I’m tired of running, I’m sick with despair.

My body is aching; it’s so racked with pain.

And Dear God I pray as I run in the rain,

That someone will love me and give me a home.

A warm cosy bed I can call my own

My last owner neglected me and chased me away

To rummage in garbage and live as a stray.

But now God I’m tired and hungry and cold.

And I’m afraid that I’ll never grow old.

They’ve chased me with sticks and hit me with stones

While I run in the streets just looking for bones!

I’m not really bad God, please help if you can.

For I have become just a “VICTIM OF MAN!”

I’m wormy Dear God and I’m ridden with fleas and

All that I want is an owner to please!

If you find one for me God, I’ll try to be good

I won’t run away and I’ll do as I should.

I don’t think I’ll make it too long on my own,

Cause I’m getting so weak and I’m so all alone.

Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry,

Cause I’m so afraid God, that I’m gonna die!

And I’ve got so much love and devotion to give,

That I should be given a new chance to live.

So Dear God PLEASE, PLEASE answer my prayer

And send me somebody who WILL really care….

New Arrivals

Hello everybody, my name is Michael, I’m new, I have come into care with my 2 brothers (Martin and Marcus) and 2 sisters (Mollie and Muriel). It’s only us 5 in care at Little Hawley at the moment because our mum found new homes for Fergus and Freda and they went last week – mum said we all “needed to settle in a bit first“ before we could write on the blog. We are all 8 weeks old so we are not big enough to go to the vet place yet ( I think mum has booked us in for next week, cos you can’t have your first jabs until you are 9 weeks old – I will let you know more when I know more) purrs and love xxx

Hi i'm Marcus

Sorry For The Delays

Mum says we need to say sorry to everyone for the delays in putting things on our blog. She thinks its a combination (wow that’s a big word for a little kitten ) of us being new at doing this and wordprss changing everything around . Any how we are trying to do it but sometimes it just doesn’t go right .If there are any of the lucky foster babies out there that have gone to their new homes and are reading this please put your paws on the computer and say hi. Lots of kitten licks xxx

Mums New Slot

Hi everybody its Martin here, mum said that she thought it might be a good idea if she could have a slot on our blog for educational purposes. We have had a meeting and it went to a vote(only because Muriel wouldn’t do as I said) and it has been decided she can have a slot ,but only once a week and she mustn’t go on too much about things that we as kittens would find boring. So tomorrow we will let her have a go (lets see if she can do it or if she fluffs it up- my cat treats are on the latter) xxx

Cat Protection believes that having your cat neutered is an essential part of responsible cat ownership.

Neutering is a surgical procedure which prevents female cats becoming pregnant and male cats making females pregnant. A female cat is spayed (her ovaries and uterus are removed) A male cat is castrated (his testes are removed) CP recommends the neutering of kittens at about 5 to 6 months of age.

The operation for both male and female cats is very simple and so you will usually be able to drop your cat off and pick him or her up on the same day.(your vet will advise you about giving  food prior to the operation and the after care)

The cost of the operation varies, your vet would be able to give you a quote, and CP offers financial assistance to cat owners on benefits or low income to help with the cost of neutering.

Neutering has many health benefits, as well as helping  to reduce the number of unwanted cats in the UK.

Neutered male cats are;

  1. less likely to roam, reducing the risk of them being run over
  2. less likely to fight ,reducing the risk of them getting injured
  3. less likely to contract serious diseases ,such as feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) or feline leukaemia virus (FeLV) through fighting
  4. less likely to display territorial behaviour such as spraying
  5. Unable to develop tumours of the testicles.

Neutered female cats are;

  1. unable to get pregnant and have unwanted litters of kittens
  2. not going to call or wail, as un-neutered cats do when in season
  3. less likely to contract disease such aas FIV and FeLV spread by bites
  4. unable to develop cancer of the ovaries of uterus
  5. less likely to develop mammary cancer – especially if neutered under the age of six months.

You are never going to guess, we have just found out that SANTA PAWS is coming soon.(in 8 days time)

For those of you that don’t know, he is the biggest cat in the world, he lives in the best house ever and spends all year making toys for all the cats and kittens in the whole wide world and it doesn’t matter if you have got a home or you are in care – he will still come (if you have been good of course!!! — which we all have) and leaves you a present, wow i am sooooo excited i cant stop purring .  love Mollie xxx

Mum hopes that no one gets poorly but said that this web site might be helpfull if any one does http://www.vethelpdirect.com/index.php

What A Day!!!

Well first mum went off and picked up 2 new foster babies from the Gillian foster mum (our mum calls her wild thing,’cos she loves feral cats and kittens), then we all (7 of us) went to the vets. Next time mum asks if we want to go out for a trip I will make sure I find out where she is offering to take us first, before saying yes because I DO NOT want to go back to the vets !! We all saw the Caroline vet, she was very nice to us ,stroking us and telling us that we were all lovely (which of course we all know because mum tells us all the time), then all of a sudden it was horrid she stuck a sharp pokey thing in us .Sharp pokey things are NOT NICE if your mum asked you if you want to go to the vets say NO!! Don’t do it ,trust me you will not like it . I am not going back!!! (and it does not matter what treats might be on offer). love from Michael XXX

Hi everyone Mole here, it’s my turn today to have a go on the blog (mum says that it is only fair if we take it in turns)I thought I would tell you a bit about the new kittens mum collected .There are two of them, both tabby , one, mum says has a hint of brown and the other is more black , both  boys. They are not aloud to play with us at the minute because one of them has flu!!! But even if they didn’t have the flu i don’t think that they would want to play because mum says they have be traumatised ,she has tried to explain what it means but I’m not sure I really understand. Anyway they are very quiet and keep still, sleeping at lot of the time. The brownie coloured one hides in the litter tray (yuck that’s dirty) and does a wee and a poo next to his food bowl.(yuck that’s really dirty) but mum doesn’t tell him off because she says it’s not his fault, and telling him off would make it worse it’s because he’s traumatised. I hope they will be un-traumatised soon so that we can all play together. Love and licks mole xxx

ANSWERS

Fewer than three yes answers – you are not cat addicted.

One day a cat loses its ninth life and goes to heaven.

There he meets the Lord Himself. The Lord says to the cat, “You lived a good life and if there is any way I can make your stay in Heaven more comfortable, please let me know.”

The cat thinks for a moment and says, “Lord, all my life I have lived with a poor family and had to sleep on a hard wooden floor.”

The Lord stops the cat and says, “Say no more” and a wonderful fluffy pillow appears.

A few days later six mice are killed in a tragic farming accident and go to heaven. Again the Lord them and makes the same offer.

The mice answer, “All of our lives we have been chased. We have had to run from cats, dogs, and even women with brooms. We are tired of running. Do you think we could fit us with roller skates so we don’t have to run anymore?”

The Lord says, “No problem” and suddenly each mouse has a beautiful pair of roller skates.

About a week later the Lord stops by to see the cat and finds him snoozing happily on the pillow. The Lord gently wakes him and asks, “How are things since you are here?”

The cat slowly stretches out his legs. “It’s wonderful here. Better than I could have ever expected.” he replies,  “And those Meals On Wheels you keep sending by are absolutely brilliant!!!”

New Names

Hello all, my name is Marcus and I’m going to tell about mum going to the post office yesterday and bumping into the Caroline vet, she is the vet that we all had to go to last week (you remember the one with the sharp pointy thing that made Michael cry) she asked mum if the new kittens had got new names yet. No is the answer, so the Caroline vet has requested that they be called Jingle and Jangle (why I asked, they have no bells) mum say that would be ok and it would be nice for them to have festive names. So it official Jingle and Jangle are the new names for the new kittens.XXX

It’s tonight, It’s tonight he’s coming I am so excited I could burst!!! Make sure you all go to bed early no playing or messing about with your toys ,because he can see you even if you think he can’t, and  keep your paws crossed that he will bring you lots of kitty prezzies . Give everyone you know a big kitty lick and wish them a very happy Christmas. Oh I nearly forgot make sure you tell your mums or who ever you live with, not to forget that you will be able to eat lots of turkey. Purrs of love to you all Muriel =^..^=

Mum is Really Cross

Our mum is very cross and has been stroppy – she could not get on to word press the last 3 days ,to let us write our blog because it kept telling her that her pass word was wrong and it was not!!! She got a strop on with the computer and said some naughty words (she doesn’t really like the computer, because she is not computer friendly but a computer virus) and now mum has missed her new Sunday slot ,so we have told her that we will not write tomorrow and she can have her slot (because we are just soooo lovely) talking of lovely we had new mums and dads come to see us on Saturday and they thought we where all gorgeous ,but only want one of us and its going to be Michael or Martin but we are not sure which one , we will let you know. Love and kittens licks to you all Mole xxx

Happy New Year everyone I hope you didn’t all over do it last night. Mum says it’s a new year and we should all get new homes, so we are keeping are paws crossed and hoping that it will happen soon. She also told me that we have got to go to the vets tomorrow for our second jab (for those of you that don’t know what a jab is , its not very nice ,it’s a sharp pointy thing that the vet sticks in you and it hurts) and what ever you do we MUST NOT tell Michael we have to go because he will just lose the plot if he knows he’s got to go back (take a look at “what a day” Dec 19th) so mum says we must keep mum (WHAT???) Marcus =^..^=

lots of love Daisy(aka freya)

All good Kittens wash

All good Kittens wash

Hi everybody Michael here, just letting you all know what has been happening, first we had to go back to the vets and YES it hurt and YES this time it was two sharp pointy things not one and NO I didn’t like it and YES I did cry, but mum said that it is all done now and I should not dwell on it, and just to forget it and think about something nice instead.

So that’s what I am doing and the nice thing that I am thinking about is that Jingle and Jangle have got FERR EVER homes and they have already gone to them!!! Two ladies came to see us all the other day (a mum called Barbara and her daughter called Maria) and despite me and my brothers and sisters being really cute and showing them both just how lovely we are, they decided that Jingle and Jangle would go and live with them. (I thought that they didn’t pick any of us because Martin at one point got over excited and climbed up one of the lady’s legs twice, but mum said it wasn’t because of that .)

Mum is really pleased and has told us that Barbara and Maria are one in a million and mums like that don’t come along very often, and that Jingle and Jangle are both very lucky little kittens. Speak again soon XXX

We can’t believe it; mum was right about New Year – new homes!!! We had more new mums and dads come up to Little Hawley yesterday and one couple picked Michael and another couple picked Martin and Marcus. Michael has gone on his own but his new dad will be at home with him most of the time so he won’t be lonely. And Martin and Marcus have gone together, and they get a new sister called Buffy. So that only leaves Mollie and me (Muriel) in care, mum said after we have got furr ever homes there will not be any more foster babies in care until the spring, when it all starts up again It is mums Sunday slot today but we are swapping with her because we were so excited to tell you all our news, so it will be mums turn tomorrow. Love and kitten licks Muriel x

We have had a new arrival today at Little Hawley, but its NOT a kitten, her name is Widget and she is 119 cat years old, I cant count past 34 so we think that she is really really old . Mum went to get her from the Sam foster mum who lives a long way away. Mum has explained to us about “the last stop before heaven” our foster mum is a kitten fosterer but she has got other animals as well. She has got her own cats, pigs, sheep, tortoises, and chickens. And although she loves looking after us kittens she says she loves the other animals and the OAPs just as much. When mum and her family moved to Little Hawley it was decided it was such a brilliant place for cats because no cars come past the house and there are woods at the back to play in, that if there were any really old cats that came into care, that were un-homeable, instead of being put in a pen and probably not ever getting a home they would come and live there last days at Little Hawley instead. And mum says that it works well, but because all the ones that have come up here before have always come in the summer, and they have their own shed to settle into but there is no electric to it so it’s cold ,and mum says that Widget must share with us . We don’t mind because we know if mum hadn’t taken us into care we might have been out in the cold. We are all going to let her settle in (because she was very cross earlier and did a lot of hissing and spitting ,which we think is a bit rude , but mum says it’s only because she is scared and confused) and then tomorrow we will see if she would like her photo taken. Murial =^..^=

Hello everybody Mollie and Muriel here, this will be our last blog because we have got Furr Ever homes now Yippy!!! We can’t wait to get there and settle in. We are leaving Widget in charge of the blog ,and have suggested that while there are no kittens in care at Little Hawley, that maybe all of  mums other animals should have a go at blogging and tell you all a bit about themselves. And then when more kittens come in Widget can show them how to do the blog. It ‘s been great talking to you but it will be better at our Furr Ever home – love and 2 x huge kitten licks M and M xxx

We are just so so sad, our new mummy phoned and said that she will not be taking us now, its just terrible news, Mole just can not stop crying, no matter how much I cuddle and try and lick her better. Mum says that it will be ok and that she is here for us, but we wanted to go to our Furr Ever home!!! I am going to have a lay down now, see if we can both have a little sleep, in the hope that when we wake up we might feel a bit better. Muriel xxx

Its a Joke Day

How do cats eat spaghetti ?
The same as everyone else – they put it in their mouths!

What is a French cat’s favourite pudding ?
Chocolate mousse !

What happened when the cat ate a ball of wool ?
She had mittens !

What did the cat say when he lost all his money ?
I’m paw !

Some cats are simply fussy eaters but they may also stop eating because of stress or illness. If you cat stops eating, try;

1. Offering wet food at room temperature rather then straight from the fridge – in general, cats prefer this

2. Offering a range of different wet and dry foods at different times – making sure you introduces new foods slowly

3. Tempting a fussy cat by warming food up a little to increase the aroma – make sure it is not to hot!

4. Sitting down with your cat to try and encourage them to eat

You should watch for changes in your cat’s eating or drinking behaviour as they may indicate an underlying problem with there health. You should see the vet if your cat;

1. Normally eats well but suddenly stops
2. Has not eaten for 48 hours
3. Develops a ravenous appetite
4. Start drinking noticeably more than usual
5. Has unexplained weight loss

Hello I’m Widget

I'm still a little shy

I'm still a little shy

Mum went to collect another baby that needed to come into care, her name is Miracle, but she wasn’t called that when she was little, it got changed to that because the vets said it is a miracle that she is still alive. She got attacked by a dog when she was three months old and it bit her head and then a little while ago the vets think she had a stroke.
Now she has come in to care at Little Hawley mum is assessing her – but mum says its not good, poor Miracle seems to have a long list of problems .Mum says she thinks Miracle is blind in one eye ,she seems to have problems eating ,she doesn’t seem to have very good coordination (she tries to jump but cant). She will not wash herself and we heard mum saying that she has got the worst infestation (wow big word for a little kitten ) of fleas that mum has ever seen. (also and we probable shouldn’t be telling you this, but she wees and poos everywhere and doesn’t ever use her tray – we think that is very dirty cos every one knows how clean cats are, and we will not be asking her to play with us until she sorts out her toilet manners) mum thinks that the dog has probably damaged part of Miracles brain, she is going to the Tina vet next week for her to check Miracle over, so we will know more then. Lots of love from Mollie and Muriel who feel very lucky today that the only problem they have is that they don’t have a Furr ever home just yet.

My name is Widget

Hello I’m widget I have found myself in care at Little Hawley through no fault of my own. I am not happy about it, don’t get me wrong, its very nice here and my new mum is looking after me, but I’m very old you see ,17 in your years, 119 in cat years and I am set in my ways and I don’t like change !!!
I am also sharing my space with 2 x kittens (14 weeks called Mollie and Muriel) and a 9 month old kitten (called Miracle) and really I don’t like them, any of them, in fact I don’t like any other animals, which mum has told me could be a problem as she has 5 other cats and lots of other animals which I will be expected to be nice to, and pass the time of day with (well we will see about that!!!)
To show my new mum how upset I am about all of this, I have decided to stop eating, and in fact I stopped 2 days ago.

http://www.animalsearchuk.com/

Mum says she hopes it never happens but if it does this web-site might be helpful to some one and dont forget if your cat ever goes missing to phone you local Cats Protection and your Vets

This is just ridiculous, I have never been so humiliated, that Miracle kitten has so many fleas, she has passed them around and we have all got them now. It‘s disgusting I don’t ever remember having fleas its just one of these things I will not tolerate. I am so cross and I am still not going to eat my food. This is far from Purr-fect. Widget.

New Babies
